A publication designed and developed from the findings of my research project; Shedding Light on PMDD: Addressing the Isolation of Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder
Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder can be an isolating and bewildering diagnosis; it’s easy to feel alone in the cyclical struggle of living with the disorder. (Dys)regulated: Stories of PMDD brings to light the lived experiences of individuals with PMDD, fostering a sense of connection and fighting back against the isolation the disorder can breed.
This first edition records and anthologizes the stories of real people on their own PMDD journeys - from discovery, through struggle, and ultimately acceptance. Through an expressive combination of text and visuals, (Dys)regulated creates a space for the PMDD community to share our stories, feel understood, and know that we aren’t alone.
(Dys)regulated: Stories of PMDD is the result of two semesters' worth of research, development, and design as the capstone project of my degree.
Through research, content surveys, and interviews, I discovered a common desire to feel understood, to connect with others who share their diagnosis and know they are not alone in their experiences. My interviews also uncovered a desire for a physical resource that records their stories with a permanency that online spaces cannot promise. (Dys)regulated is the culmination of these learnings, and makes tangible the stories of PMDD for those living with the disorder, offering a resource to find community within and to share with their loved ones.
